Matthew Douzart, managing director of Himalayan Institute Cameroon, traveled halfway around the world, from Honesdale, Pennsylvania, to Guangzhou, China, for a 10-day shopping spree. Helping to equip the Himalayan Institute Community Center in Cameroon for its 2008 project expansion, the shopping list focused heavily on carpentry and agricultural tools and equipment, critically needed for the School of Carpentry & Construction and the School of Energy Farming. It was particularly helpful to procure these items from China, as the electricity standard used in China matches that of Cameroon (unlike that used in the US). In addition, a host of other smaller items were procured for the Community Center, from jewelry tools and materials to affordable reading glasses.
