HI Tibetan Settlements

An in-depth planning trip is made to Rabgayling Tibetan Settlement in South India to begin Energy Farming program.

HI Cameroon

Himalayan Institute Cameroon launches new Total Health branch center in Mbveh. Read more.

HI India

Himalayan Institute India campus in Allahabad hosts 100 guests from around the world as part of the Kamakhya spiritual excursion.

March

HI Tibetan Settlements

The Energy Farming program launches at Rabgayling Tibetan settlement. A model Pongamia pinnata nursery with 8,000 seedlings and a 20-acre demonstration farm are established. Read more.

Himalayan Institute Cameroon launches new Total Health branch center in Jakiri. Read more.

Total Health Mobile Unit launches, reaching hundreds of villages in surrounding region. Read more.

HI Cameroon

New Vision, a reading glasses program, launches, bringing affordable reading glasses to the people of Kumbo, Cameroon. Read more.

HI Tibetan Settlements

A Himalayan Institute delegation has a private audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama at NYC Town Hall in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Tibetan exile.

HI Mexico

A Himalayan Institute team visits Puebla, Mexico, to begin preparations for bringing the Institute’s humanitarian projects to Mexico.

HI Cameroon

Himalayan Institute Cameroon launches two community well projects in the Northwest Region of Cameroon. Read more.

The Center for Carpentry & Construction launches its first training program in woodworking and furniture making. Read more.

Himalayan Institute Buffalo holds its 30th anniversary celebration.
Pandit Rajmani Tigunait goes on a weeklong lecture tour in Japan.

HI India

Himalayan Institute India secures a new, 14-acre campus near the sacred shrine of Khajuraho in Central India, which will be developed into an educational retreat center.

The Spirituality in Action Conference is hosted in Honesdale, PA, with delegates from around the world.
August
HI India

Himalayan Institute India annually sponsors village schools and provides scholarships.

September

HI Cameroon

Himalayan Institute Cameroon’s annual scholarship program awards scholarships to 42 students. Read more.

Construction begins on Kumbo Public Library. The library is slated to open by the end of 2009. Read more.

HI Cameroon

Himalayan Institute Cameroon Sacred Link Jewelry program goes mobile and launches its first mobile jewelry training course to over 30 women in Bamenda, Cameroon.

Pandit Rajmani Tigunait goes on a weeklong lecture tour and humanitarian scouting trip in Brazil.

A Himalayan Institute team returns onsite to expand the Energy Farming project to three neighboring Tibetan settlements in South India.

HI Mexico

Himalayan Institute Mexico branch center is officially established; a Himalayan Institute team goes to Mexico to begin Energy Farming programs.
