The Himalayan Institute Humanitarian Team is excited to unveil its latest humanitarian venture—the Total Heath Revolution in Cameroon, West Africa! The Total Health Revolution aims to increase health knowledge and subsequently improve long-term health outcomes by reaching 75,000 people over the course of the next several months.

The program, based out of the Himalayan Institute Cameroon, will provide health education and increase knowledge through a series of 100 free classes on topics such as hygiene and sanitation, basic first aid, maternal and child health, stress and emotional health, and more. Lean more about the Total Health Center here.

The classes will be held in towns and villages throughout Cameroon’s Northwest Region in August, September, and October. Ongoing classes will be incorporated into the class schedule of the Himalayan Institute Cameroon, alongside its regular classes in French, computer, carpentry, and general literacy.

This campaign is the first of its kind in the region, if not the entire nation, offering simple yet meaningful solutions that are realistically applicable for the people of Northwest Cameroon.

To begin, a team of local health professionals will be trained as Community Health Educators, and taught how to effectively deliver health classes in their communities. The Cameroonian trainees will take part in an intensive program, taught  by Himalayan Institute public health staff from Honesdale, PA, during which they will develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to hold classes of their own.

The legwork has been completed and our Humanitarian Team is off to Cameroon next week to oversee the implementation of the project.
