The Himalayan Institute community is committed to sustainability and continues to seek new ways to reduce our carbon footprint, reduce energy consumption, and enhance the environment. Here’s a glance at our latest eco-friendly efforts.

Solar thermal panels installed at the Honesdale campus heat 60% of the potable water and lo-flo toilets reduce water consumption by 60%.

Residents recently went on an educational tour of the boiler room! Clarence Thompson patiently explained the three different heating systems used on the campus, their purpose, and cost efficiencies. Clarence monitors the level of heating oil in two large oil tanks for daily oil consumption, watching for usage spikes, low levels or leakage.

Clarence created a piping system, one-of-a-kind, to accommodate a new water filtration system that serves the entire campus.

All around campus, buildings are being upgraded with new insulation to conserve energy to keep warm in the winter and to keep cool in the summer.

Each year, landscaping improvements on all of the campuses create a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment for guests.

Our commitment to yoga and sustainability

Thanks for your continued support of these efforts on campus!
