Dear Friends,

Our annual campaign, Partnerships For Peace, focuses on health and education in a region suffering from political unrest. This fundraising initiative directly combats the negative effects of the conflict through our total health and children’s education initiatives. Our programs are oftentimes the only resources communities have access to in order to supplement the loss of schools and hospitals across the region. Every day, our staff in Cameroon is hard at work forging partnerships with local women’s groups, children’s organizations, and communities to cast a wider safety net of outreach to as many people as possible.

A Closer Look at Our Children’s Literacy Program:

This week, we are highlighting the many facets of our Children’s Literacy Program at Himalayan Institute Cameroon. Our Children’s Literacy Program has been a core part of our operations in Cameroon since the inception of our initiatives in 2007. We established the largest network of libraries in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, with over 60,000 books, reading rooms, collaborative workspaces, a children’s corner, reference books, and textbooks.

Most recently, we have focused our programs on remote/mobile outreach to children all over the Northwest Region of Cameroon, in response to the current conflict. We have expanded our offerings to include children’s outdoor teamwork activities, while we continue to bolster our computer basics courses and tutoring and mentoring initiatives. With mobile, independent education materials and consultants, our staff is able to travel all across the region and serve exponentially more children who have been displaced by the conflict.

Why This Program Matters:

Our Children’s Literacy Program matters now more than ever because schools have been shut down for over 2 years as a result of the civil conflict. Children’s learning has been stifled, and oftentimes our programs are the only form of continuing education they have access to. During this time of immense stress and uncertainty, kids rarely have the opportunity to relax and just be kids. Our programs give them a safe environment where they can learn, grow, play, and escape the fear of the conflict around them.

Children’s education and safety are key components for sustaining lasting peace in communities not only in Cameroon but all around the world. When children’s senses of curiosity are nurtured and supported through education, they grow up to be more informed citizens and change-makers within their communities.

How Will This Campaign Help?

Partnerships for Peace mitigates the stress and turmoil children are experiencing every day. Through education, mentorship, group activities, breathing and mindfulness techniques, children are receiving the tools to help them cope and create peace of mind during this volatile time in their lives. Through our collective efforts, which could not continue without donor support, we remain on the ground sharing children’s literacy programs, public health education, and meditation practices.

We ask you for a donation to support this initiative as well as our overall goal of bringing peace to the world, especially those who need our help the most.

These resources create a lasting impact on the communities we serve. With ongoing support, our outreach will continue to expand throughout all of Cameroon. Please donate NOW to support our social impact, as we continue to support Cameroon into a brighter tomorrow. Creating change is a long-term investment. Your support creates impact that will continue to develop for many generations to come.

We are changing the world.
