Our Food Security and Community Health Programs

Farming Partnerships
Robust, resilient local food systems reduce dependency on vital imported food supplies. By partnering with Cameroon farmers, we’re helping to strengthen crop quality and boost productivity in the communities we serve.

Meals at School
When food security is compromised, schools often become students’ primary meal source. By collaborating with partner schools, we’re providing daily access to vital nutrition, enabling children to learn better at school and thrive at home.

Family Health Education
Knowledge empowers parents to take charge of their families’ health and well-being. By providing education on nutrition and wellness, we’re supporting them in making better lifestyle choices, leading to improved long-term health outcomes for the community.
Farming Partnerships
Africa faces a growing population and an increasingly unpredictable climate that makes local food production more difficult. Despite fertile land and a wealth of agricultural talent, many regions remain heavily dependent on food imports, leading to heightened vulnerability amid intensifying global supply chain disruptions. The most sustainable solution is to implement reliable, innovative strategies for growing food locally. By partnering with well-vetted local farmers who produce essential food crops like rice, corn, beans, potatoes, and vegetables, we are helping build a more resilient, self-sustaining food system within the communities we serve.
Meals at School
During times of food shortages, families often cut back on meals, leaving children to attend school hungry. Numerous studies, including those from the United Nations World Food Program, highlight how hunger and poor nutrition severely hinder children’s ability to learn and thrive. Building on our longstanding educational work with partner schools, we are providing students with locally-sourced school-time meals or take-home food packets, ensuring they receive the consistent nourishment they need to laugh, play, grow, and reach their full potential.
Family Health Education
Knowledge is the essential first step in empowering families to improve their health and well-being. We’re teaching parents about nutrition, health, and wellness, with a strong focus on the critical role of healthy eating in early childhood. By offering workshops at the HI Cameroon Community Center and partnering with local community groups, schools, churches, and tribal organizations, we are deepening the impact of this transformative program, delivering vital, life-changing benefits to thousands. As our HI Cameroon public health team likes to say, “Your health is your wealth!”
About Himalayan Institute Cameroon

Our Community Center
In 2007, we began partnering with rural communities in Cameroon to eradicate poverty, disease, and illiteracy. Since then, our education, health services, and job creation initiatives have thrived through ongoing respectful partnership with the local communities—impacting more than 50,000 lives and laying the foundation for generations of meaningful change.
Our Public Health Initiatives
We’ve trained community health workers in Northwest Cameroon, enabling them to confidently go out into their communities to provide vital public health knowledge and awareness. Our health education classes and awareness efforts are aimed at addressing the lack of access to health knowledge throughout the general population. Our model is the first of its kind in the region.
