Our friends in the Sierra Norte region of Mexico working with our VIDA project would like to share this simple, warming version of cocoa – Mexican Hot Chocolate! You can use this authentic recipe at a fundraiser for VIDA – just increase the ingredients proportionally and to taste.
Ingredients:
- 3 – 4 TBSP granulated sugar
- 3 TBSP baking cocoa
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- pinch of cayenne powder
- 2 1/3 cups milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
In a small heavy-duty saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa, cinnamon & cayenne
Over medium heat, gradually stir in milk and continue to stir constantly until hot – do not let the milk boil
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract
Beat with a wire whisk (or use a molinillo) until frothy
Pour into cups and serve immediately (makes 2 to 3 cups)
