Every 19th of August, we take time to honor those who risk their lives to help people in the throes of crisis around the world. “This World Humanitarian Day 2019, we honor the work of women in crises throughout the world. We focus on the unsung heroes who have long been working on the front lines in their own communities in some of the most difficult terrains” (United Nations). At Himalayan Institute Cameroon, we are lucky to have a team of dedicated humanitarians that stay present through all situations, even when things get difficult. Many of the members of our team in Cameroon have been with us since our inception in 2007, and have given their unwavering support and time over the last 12 years. This is true dedication, and we feel so grateful for their expertise and strength.

Since this year’s theme for World Humanitarian Day is “women humanitarians,” we want to highlight some of the amazing women in leadership positions at Himalayan Institute Cameroon, who have driven the success of our organization for over 12 years.

Pascaline Berri
Public Relations and Outreach, Himalayan Institute Cameroon

Eucharia Kuoh
Total Health Program Leader, Himalayan Institute Cameroon

Eucharia, our Total Health Program leader, has been building and expanding our health initiatives for over a decade. Recently, she has expanded the reach of the women’s health-focused education seminars and has been partnering with local women’s groups all across the region. Even though the conflict has presented some unique challenges in implementing normal operations, Eucharia has adapted and improved the program to reach even more community members.

Pascaline, our Director of outreach and public relations, has been a grounding example of strong leadership for all of the staff during this time of uncertainty. She continues to grow the reach of our programs so more communities and internally displaced persons can get access to our vital services.

We’d like to give a big thank you to all of our HIC staff working around the clock to make sure our services continue to be available during this time of conflict in the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon. The perseverance and steadiness of everyone involved in our operations in Cameroon are astounding. Even during periods of uncertainty and violence, our humanitarian staff has never hesitated to continue serving their community during a time of immense need. Thank you for everything you do. You all truly embody what it means to be a dedicated humanitarian, and today is all about you!

The Himalayan Institute’s humanitarian initiatives in Cameroon depend upon the love and support of our donors—the progress and development we have seen over the years could not have been possible without you, and for this, we are truly grateful. Together, we are creating peaceful communities throughout Cameroon.
