About four months ago, the Himalayan Institute Community Center launched a community tree plantation initiative, sponsored by Global Trees. These efforts are the first steps towards launching the Energy Farming program, starting with community outreach and sensitization. Our local team reached out to a number of local plantation groups who responded with great enthusiasm. In less than three months, over 10,000 trees were planted in nearby communities! These trees were all indigenous, environmentally regenerating species, primarily targeting the denuded mountain slopes and sensitive water catchment areas.
